Flatwing Gurgler Five to seven inches long, the extra-long Flatwing Gurgler provides a very tempting profile that can bring fish up from down deep. In 2007 I caught over 700 stripers on this fly alone. With its sinuous saddle hackles tied in a flatwing style and an alluring skirt of blood marabou, it has a lot of appeal for larger fish and seems to draw them from an even greater distance than does a more conventional Gurgler, suggesting perhaps a larger baitfish wounded and floundering about on the surface. Shown here is a white Flatwing Gurgler, my favorite color.

When two colors are used in the description the first color refers to the color of the foam shell, the second to the color of the tail feathers and/or the ribbing hackle.
