Learn to Fish Like a Predator!

In late spring though fall I offer on-the-water lessons in practical and successful striper fishing. Most lessons are held in Boston Harbor, with other locations north and south of Boston occasionally offered. Although classes are held on the shore and on the water, these are NOT to be considered guided fishing outings, but rather instructional sessions geared to help you become a regularly successful striper fisherman.

Lessons focus on:

  • When and where to fish with the most consistent results;
  • Understanding tides, currents, and structure;
  • Understanding feeding habits of stripers;
  • Choosing the right fly;
  • Effective retrieves;
  • Other practical and unusual tips for successful striper fishing.

These lessons are designed for anglers with fly fishing experience, either in salt water or in fresh. They are not suitable for beginning fly fishermen. Participants should be able to cast a fly at least 40 feet, have some basic knowledge of equipment and terminology and be comfortable in various wading situations.

Unless noted otherwise in the table below, cost for each class is is $150.00 with a $50.00 deposit required in advance to secure your place.

Each class will contain a minimum of two and a maximum of four anglers. Registration is on a first come-first served basis. If only one person signs up for a particular class that class will be cancelled and you can either reschedule for a different date or have your deposit refunded..

To sign up for a class, please contact me. In your message, indicate the date you're interested in and feel free to ask any questions you have. I will respond with instructions on how to send your deposit and directions on how to get to the class site.

If you need to cancel attendance:

- 30 days or more in advance of a class, I will first try to schedule another date with you. If a mutually-agreeable date cannot be found your deposit will be refunded.

- Within 30 days of the class, I will first try to schedule another date with you. If a mutually-agreeable date cannot be found your deposit will be refunded if (but only if) your place is filled by another attendee.

If I cancel a class (e.g., due to bad weather or insufficient class size (see Class Size)):

- I will first try to schedule another date with you. If a mutually-agreeable date cannot be found your deposit will be refunded.

If you've taken one of my classes before and are interested in an advanced class, please let me know. If enough people are interested I'll put one together. Also if you are interested in a date I do not offer let me know and, again, if enough people are interested (say in a weeknight class) I'll try to put one together. Private lessons are available on special request.
